airshot

Screenshot, mark up, paste.

airshot freezes your screen the moment you press the shortcut, so you draw on a still image. Add arrows, text and numbered steps, blur what shouldn't be seen, then paste it anywhere.

Coming soon
macOS 14 or later. Free.

The screenshot tool macOS should have shipped with.

Drag out the part you want

Select a region on the screen under your cursor, or one that spans every display. A timer gives you a few seconds to open a menu first.

Seven annotation tools

Pencil, arrow, rectangle, ellipse, text, numbered steps and mosaic, with undo and redo.

See the blur before you commit

Drag a box over an email or token and watch it pixelate live. Scroll to change the block size.

Pastes like the real thing

Copies exactly the way macOS's own screenshots do, so pasting works the same in Mail, Slack and Finder.

Upload to your own bucket

U sends the image to your Cloudflare R2 or S3 bucket and copies the link. No third-party host.

Your shortcuts, your folder

Rebind every hotkey. Save as PNG, JPEG or HEIC wherever you like. Lives in the menu bar, no Dock icon.

Keys you already know

The region shortcut is 4, the keys macOS uses for its own screenshots. Change any of them in Settings.

Install

  1. Download airshot.dmg, open it and drag airshot into Applications.
  2. Open airshot. macOS blocks it the first time because it isn't notarised by Apple. Go to System Settings Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway. You only do this once: updates arrive inside the app and never ask again.
  3. Take your first screenshot. Allow Screen Recording when asked, then quit and reopen airshot.
