Everything airshot does

Screenshots, text, GIFs and videos of your screen, from the menu bar. Native, light on battery, and private: nothing leaves your Mac unless you upload it.

Screenshots

Press the shortcut and the screen freezes, so you select from a still image: menus, tooltips and hover states stay put.

Capture Region
Drag out the part you want on the display under the pointer. 2 by default.
Capture All Displays
One selection that can span every display. 1 by default.
Capture After Delay
Wait 3, 5 or 10 seconds first, to open a menu or start a hover.
Hide desktop icons
Leave the icons on your desktop out of captures, without touching the desktop itself.
Retina and every format
Captures at full resolution, saved as PNG, JPEG or HEIC in the folder you choose.
Pastes like the real thing
Copies exactly the way macOS's own screenshots do, so pasting works the same in Mail, Slack and Finder.

Window screenshots

Point at a window and click. airshot captures it on its own, at full size, with its rounded corners.

On a colour you choose
The window sits on a colour of your choice, with padding around it.
Or transparent
A transparent background, for docs and slides. Hold when you click for the other one.
Padding and shadow
Choose how much space goes around the window, and whether it casts a soft shadow.
Floating windows too
Pinned and floating windows can be captured like any other. 3 by default.

Annotate

Draw right on the frozen screen, or open the capture in an editor window to zoom in and take your time.

The tools you reach for
Pencil, highlighter, line, arrow, rectangle, ellipse, text, numbered steps and mosaic.
Bend arrows and lines
Drag the middle handle of a selected arrow or line to curve it.
Text that looks right
Any installed font, at any size, plain, outlined or on a background.
See the blur before you commit
Drag a mosaic over an email or a token and watch it pixelate live.
Scroll to resize
Scroll to change the line width, the text size, the step bubbles or the mosaic blocks.
Zoom and pan
In the editor window: -scroll to zoom, hold Space and drag to move around.

GIFs and videos

Record a region, a window or the whole screen, as a GIF or a video. A small bar shows the time, with Stop and Cancel.

GIFs that stay small
Written frame by frame as you record, at the frame rate you choose.
Videos up to 60 fps
HEVC for small files, or H.264 to play everywhere, at Retina resolution.
Sound
System audio, and on macOS 15 and later, your microphone.
Show clicks
A ring where you click, so people can follow along. The pointer can be shown or hidden.
Stop any way you like
The Stop button, the shortcut again, or the menu bar icon. A countdown gives you time to get ready.
Nothing lost
A recording interrupted by a crash is recovered, up to its last second, the next time airshot opens.

Trim and Make GIF

Cut a recording down before you keep it, or later from the history.

Trim videos
With macOS's own trim handles, the same as in QuickTime Player.
Trim GIFs
Pick the first and last frame on a film strip.
Make GIF
Turn a video, or part of it, into a GIF with your GIF settings.

Text recognition

Drag over text and it’s on your clipboard, read on your Mac. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Capture Text
Any text on the screen, in the languages your Mac uses. 2 by default.
QR codes and barcodes
Drag over a code and its content is copied; a link opens with one click.
From a capture too
Copy the text from an area you’ve already selected, with Copy Text.

Capture history

Your recent captures, a shortcut away, in a glass panel at the right, left or top of the screen. H by default.

Your folder is the history
It lists the captures in your save folder, so nothing is stored twice, and captures from before are there too.
Filter by type
All, Images, GIFs, Videos or Text.
GIFs and videos play
Point at one and it plays, without sound.
Copy, edit, trim, upload
Copy a capture again, open it in the editor, trim it, upload it, or drag it into another app.
Deleting is safe
Delete moves the file to the Trash. airshot never deletes your captures on its own.
As far back as you like
Choose how far back the history goes, from a day to everything.

Upload to your own bucket

Upload a capture and the link is on your clipboard. It goes to your Cloudflare R2 or S3 bucket, not a third-party host.

Your storage, your links
Use your own bucket and your own domain for the links.
Large videos too
Big files upload in parts, straight from the file.
Keys kept on your Mac
Your access keys stay in a file only your account can read, and only sign uploads.

Made to fit in

airshot lives in the menu bar, follows light and dark mode, and does nothing while you’re not using it.

Your shortcuts
Change any of them, including separate ones for recording a window or the screen.
Notifications that help
Open a capture or show it in Finder from the notification. Problems lead you to the fix.
Your look
Glass or solid toolbar, your colours, your line width.
Light on battery
No timers, no polling: airshot wakes only when you capture.
Updates itself
New versions install from Settings, with what changed, and no extra windows.
