airshot privacy policy
Effective
airshot is a screen capture app for the Mac made by seqavo. It lives in the menu bar and takes screenshots, window screenshots, GIFs and videos of your screen, reads text from it, and lets you mark up a capture before copying, saving or uploading it.
This policy explains what airshot can see, where it keeps things, and what it does with them. The short version: your captures stay on your Mac unless you upload one to a storage bucket you set up yourself. airshot checks dl.seqavo.com for new versions. seqavo receives something only when you choose to send a problem report, and you see all of it before it goes.
What airshot keeps on your Mac
- Your captures: screenshots, GIFs and videos, saved to the folder you choose (Pictures › Screenshots unless you change it), and copied to the clipboard when you copy them.
- Capture History: a list of the captures in your save folder, read from the folder itself, so nothing is stored twice. Text you copy with Capture Text is also kept in the history, in a file in airshot’s sandbox container, until you clear it in Settings › History.
- A recording in progress: written to airshot’s container while it runs, so a recording interrupted by a crash can be recovered into your save folder the next time airshot opens.
- Your settings: shortcuts, colours, save folder and format, and so on, in airshot’s own sandbox container in your Library folder.
- Upload keys, only if you set up cloud upload: your storage provider’s access key, secret key and bucket details, in a file in airshot’s sandbox container that only your user account can read. They are never sent anywhere except to sign uploads to that bucket.
- For problem reports: the last 10 steps you took in the app (in plain words, such as “Opened the editor window”), the last error airshot showed, a log of its own errors and warnings from the last 7 days (at most 256 KB), and up to 5 crash reports from the last 30 days that macOS gives airshot. These never contain your captures, file names, typed text or keys. They stay on your Mac unless you send a report, and a crash report is deleted once you send or dismiss it.
airshot does not keep an account for you, because it has none.
What airshot can see
- Your screen, with the Screen Recording permission: only when you take a screenshot, capture a window, read text, or record a GIF or video. A screenshot is held in memory while you mark it up and let go when you copy, save, upload or cancel. A recording runs only while its bar is on screen, until you stop it.
- Text on your screen, only when you use Capture Text or Copy Text. It is read on your Mac with Apple’s text recognition and copied to the clipboard. Nothing is sent anywhere to read it.
- Sound, only when you record a video with system audio or the microphone turned on in Settings › Recording.
airshot does not run in the background capturing anything.
Problem reports
Settings › About and the menu bar menu have Report a Problem. After airshot quits unexpectedly, a notification offers to report it. In every case, airshot sends a report only when you click Send, and the window shows you everything it contains first.
A report contains:
- Always: the app’s version, your macOS version and your Mac’s model.
- Only if you write or give them: your message and your email address (to reply to you).
- Only if “Include technical details” is on, which it is unless you turn it off: the last steps, the last error, a summary of your settings (such as which save format you use; never paths, text or keys), the 7-day error log, and a crash report, either one macOS gave airshot or a .ips file you attach yourself.
It never contains your captures, your files or file names, your clipboard, or your upload keys.
The report goes to markpad.md, a service run by seqavo, where it is kept as a private record that only seqavo can read. The country you sent it from is taken from the connection. Your IP address is not stored; a one-way hash of it is kept to stop floods of reports. seqavo uses reports only to find and fix problems in its apps, and to reply to you if you gave an email address.
Network connections
airshot connects to:
- dl.seqavo.com, about once a day, to check for a new version of airshot. The check sends the version you have and nothing about you, your Mac or your captures. airshot asks before installing an update, unless you turn on automatic updates.
- Your own storage bucket, only when you upload a capture. It goes to the Cloudflare R2 or S3-compatible bucket you entered in Settings › Cloud, signed with your keys, under a random file name. airshot copies the resulting link to your clipboard. If you never set up cloud upload, airshot never makes this connection.
- markpad.md, only when you send a problem report, as described above. If you are offline, airshot keeps the report and sends it the next time it opens with a connection.
That is the whole list. airshot contains no analytics and no advertising.
Who your data is shared with
Your captures go only where you put them: the clipboard, your folder, or your own bucket. Whoever you give an uploaded link to can open that capture, and your storage provider’s own terms apply to what you store with them.
Problem reports you send are kept by seqavo, using these service providers to run markpad.md: Vercel (hosting), Neon (database), Cloudflare (file storage and network) and Resend or Brevo (to email seqavo that a report arrived). They process the report only to provide that service. seqavo does not sell or share reports with anyone else.
Mac permissions
- Screen Recording: to capture your screen, only when you ask for a capture or a recording.
- Microphone: only if you turn on the microphone for videos (macOS 15 and later). macOS asks you first.
- Notifications: to confirm a save, copy or upload, and to offer a report after a crash. You can turn them off in System Settings; airshot then shows a short message on screen instead.
- Pictures folder and folders you choose: to save captures where you asked.
- Open at login: off unless you turn it on in airshot’s settings.
airshot never asks for your camera, contacts or location.
Retention and deletion
Captures stay wherever you saved them until you delete them; uploaded ones stay in your bucket until you remove them there. Deleting a capture from Capture History moves its file to the Trash.
Deleting airshot removes the app. To remove its settings, history text, upload keys and report data as well, delete the com.morshedx.airshot folder in ~/Library/Containers.
seqavo keeps a problem report for up to one year, or 90 days after the problem is marked fixed. To have a report deleted sooner, email [email protected] with its reference (such as AS-7K2Q), shown after you send it.
Children
airshot is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If airshot starts collecting, storing or sharing data in a way this policy does not cover, we will update this page and change the effective date at the top before that version of the app is released.
